Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 22, 2025
At RefineAPI (a service by Enkosi Ventures, "we," "us," or "our"), we are committed to transparency and protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how data is handled when you use our API Service ("Service").
Information We Process
When you use the RefineAPI Service, we process the following types of information:
- Submitted URLs: We fetch content from the URLs you submit to perform the extraction.
- Extracted Data: This includes metadata, article text, entities, and Markdown generated from the fetched URL.
- API Request Metadata: For operational purposes, we (and our service partners like RapidAPI and Railway) may log information about API requests, such as timestamps, IP addresses (for rate limiting and security), API key identifiers (managed by RapidAPI), status codes, and features requested.
- Website Usage Data (Landing Page): If you visit our website (refineapi.com), we use standard analytics tools (like Google Analytics) to collect aggregated, anonymized information about visitor traffic, such as pages visited and general location. This helps us improve our website. We also use Sentry for frontend error tracking on our website.
How We Use Information
- To Provide the Service: Submitted URLs and the content they point to are processed solely to provide you with the extraction results (JSON, Markdown, entities, metadata).
- Service Operation & Improvement: API request metadata helps us monitor service health, diagnose issues, prevent abuse (e.g., through rate limiting), and improve the Service.
- AI Enhancement Features: If you enable AI-powered features (available on select plans), relevant textual content (such as article previews or extracted text blocks) is sent to third-party Large Language Model (LLM) providers (currently OpenAI, though this may change) for processing. This data is used by the LLM provider strictly to generate the requested enhancement (e.g., refined metadata, validated content, identified entities) and is subject to the data usage and privacy policies of that specific LLM provider. We encourage you to review OpenAI's policies (and any future LLM provider's policies we may use).
- Communication: If you contact us for support (e.g., via [email protected]), we will use your contact information to respond to your inquiries.
Data Storage and Retention
- RefineAPI is designed as a **stateless processing service.** We **do not store** the specific URLs you submit or the full content extracted from those URLs on our servers beyond the immediate processing time required to return a response to you via the API.
- Anonymized or aggregated operational logs may be retained for a limited period for monitoring and security purposes.
- Data processed by third-party LLM providers is subject to their respective retention policies.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information or the content you process.
- LLM Providers: As stated, when AI features are used, data is shared with our LLM provider (e.g., OpenAI) for processing. We do not use this data to train our own models.
- Service Providers: We use third-party services to operate RefineAPI:
- RapidAPI: Manages API subscriptions, billing, access control, and provides its own layer of analytics and security. Your interaction with RefineAPI via RapidAPI is also subject to RapidAPI's Privacy Policy.
- Railway (or similar hosting provider): Hosts our backend API application.
- Sentry: Used for error tracking and performance monitoring for both our backend API and our website.
- Cloudflare Pages (or similar): Hosts our static website.
- Google Analytics: For website traffic analysis (landing page only).
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
Your Choices and Control
- AI Features: You can choose whether to enable AI enhancement features on a per-request basis via API parameters. Disabling these features prevents your content from being sent to third-party LLM providers through our Service.
- Website Analytics: You can typically control cookie settings and opt-out of analytics tracking through your browser settings or browser extensions.
Security
We implement reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect the Service. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13 (or a higher age threshold depending on the jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
